Alajuela Costa Rica is one of the most important cities in Costa
Rica. The international airport (Juan Santamaria) and it's proximity to
San Jose, great night life, shopping, central location, unique shops and
true traditional Costa Rican ambience make Alajuela a must for most toursists
visiting Costa Rica.
Shopping, gambling, dancing, eating in typical
restaurants, or just relaxing in a place with all of the amenities are
some of the attractions of Alajuela, Costa Rica. The central location makes
it possible to experience many locations and tours and return to each night
to the same safe and comfortable place.

Most people do not realize that the main international
airport is in Alajuela and not San Jose! Alajuela makes a more logical
home base for most travellers than San Jose as it is much safer and much
closer to the airport, beaches, Guanacaste, Arenal Volcano and most destinations
than is San Jose.

Additionally, the mountains above Alajuela and
Heredia have many attractions and opportunities to experience the cloud
forest, see animals, take canopy tours and other activities that
are in many cases better than more well-known tourist locations (like Monteverde)
and they do not take a full day of driving to get there.
Alajuela participated in several different historical events. In 1823
it battled under the command of Gregorio José Ramírez to
defeat the Republic against the Imperialist that occupied the cartel of
Cartago; San José joined forces with Alajuela and both troops marched
to the battle of Ochomogo the 5th of April 1823. That was the first time
that Costa Ricans battled against Costa Ricans. As a consequence of this
battle, this was won by the joined forces, San José became the capital
city of Costa Rica. Alajuela contributed with its National Hero Juan Santamaría
(see photo of statue on right), who burned the house of Rivas in 1856 during
that campaign.
The average temperatures of the Costa Rican Province of Alajuela is
between 22 and 24 Degrees Celsius. In the summertime it might get a little
warmer at times. At the higher levels the temperature is around 20 Degrees
Celsius. The levels above sea are: Alajuela: 952m, San José: 882m,
