Transportation
There are transportation
services (private, air conditioned, 4 whell drive) to all destinations
in Costa Rica. To La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano 2½ hours - one way trip.
Taxi or boat are the fastest way to get to Fortuna from Monteverde.
Description
The Pension El Sueño
is a family owned and operated lodge in the center of Santa Elena, a small
village next to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. A favorite for budget
travelers and backpackers, the lodging is hosted by a family originally
from the Monteverde area. The eating/kitchen and reception areas are surrounded
by the rooms, all with their outside private entrances. Three new rooms
have been recently built at the back of the property. Breakfast is served
daily between 6 and 8 a.m. and is very reasonably priced. Lunch and dinner
are also available by request at good prices, and a homemade lunch will
be made to go upon request, if you're spending the day in one of the nearby
parks. Transportation service is also available to the parks as well as
Arenal Volcano. The friendly owner, Rafa Trejos and his family, are helpful
hosts, and offer horseback tours from their nearby farm.
Trips
by horseback
A number of horseback
tours are available. When you've finished visit the Monteverde area, a
one-way trip to the Arenal Lake and Volcano may be an exciting part of
your vacation. The trip lasts four and a half hours, and takes you across
the Tilaran Mountain Range past the spectacular views of the cloud forest
and the volcano. It is a great adventure for backpackers and allows to
carry on with your travel adventure from the Lake Arenal and La Fortuna
area. An extra pack horse with take all your extra luggage or backpacks.
Price for this trip is $50 per person and includes a guide; a bilingual
english speaking guide is available for all private tours.
To La Fortuna/Arenal
volcano, 4 hr tour one way by horse from El Mirador to Arenal Lake, across
lake by boat into Fortuna. All transport included.
To San Luis Valley/waterfall
(900 ft high), 4 hr tour, round trip thru coffee plantations.
