Birds

We have many different types of birds and hummingbirds in the park. Various parrots, trogan, toucanettes, and an occasisonal toucan are some of the many birds you will see here.

          Trogan

The trogan is seen and heard alot in the park. The trogan is a relative of the more famous Quetzal, the most famous bird of Costa Rica.

Range: Mexico south to northwest South America
Habitat: lowland to middle elevations
Status: Threatened by deforestation but still common in many areas
Comments: Active during the day. These birds eat primarily seeds and fruits and produce a distinctive sound.

 


     Parrots            

There are many species of parrots that pass through the park and that live in the area.

Common Spanish Name: Loro
Scientific Name: various
Range: Mexico south to South America
Habitat: lowland to middle elevations
Status:Common in many areas
Comments: Active during the day. These birds eat primarily seeds and fruits and travel in flocks.


       Mot Mot
The mot mot is a bird named for the sound they produce.

Hummingbirds

There are many different types of hummingbirds in the park. They come in many different sizes and colors. If you sit quietly near any blooming flowers you will often see several different species.
